New Medicines

New Medicines Service

The New Medicines Service (NMS) is an NHS-funded service designed to support patients who have recently been prescribed a new medicine for certain long-term health conditions. The service helps you understand your medication, use it correctly, and address any concerns you may have during the early stages of treatment.

Our pharmacists are available to provide guidance and ongoing support, helping you get the most benefit from your new medication.

Starting a new medicine can sometimes raise questions about how and when to take it, potential side effects, and what results to expect. The New Medicines Service provides an opportunity to discuss these concerns with a qualified pharmacist in a confidential setting.

During the service, the pharmacist will review your medication, explain how it works, and provide practical advice to help you take it safely and effectively. Follow-up consultations may also be arranged to check how you are getting on with your treatment.

The service is available for patients who have been prescribed a new medicine for eligible long-term conditions, including certain respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, type 2 diabetes, and other qualifying health concerns.

By improving understanding and confidence in using new medicines, the service aims to help patients achieve better health outcomes and reduce the likelihood of medication-related problems.

All consultations are carried out in a private and professional environment, ensuring you receive personalised support tailored to your individual needs.

If you have recently started a new medicine and would like additional advice or reassurance, speak to a member of our pharmacy team to find out whether you are eligible for the New Medicines Service.
