NHS Meningitis B Men Vaccination — Free at All Care Pharmacy
All Care Pharmacy, 113 Barton Street, Gloucester GL1 4HR
MenB is the most common cause of bacterial meningitis in the UK. It can become life-threatening within hours. Young people moving into halls of residence and shared accommodation are at higher risk, because the bacteria spread easily between people living in close contact and mixing with lots of new people.
The NHS has commissioned a one-off, time-limited vaccination programme through community pharmacies, running from 20 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. All Care Pharmacy is a participating pharmacy.
The vaccine is free on the NHS if you are eligible.
You were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 (broadly this year’s Year 13 leavers, aged 17–18).
You must be registered with a GP surgery in England. You can book online — see below.
You were born on or after 21 July 2001 and, for the first time this autumn, you are:
This includes international students, students from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, and those travelling abroad to study. **You do not need to be registered with a GP** to use our walk-in service.
Not sure if you qualify? Call us or pop in — our team will check for you.
Online booking through the NHS National Booking Service is open now, with appointments from 20 July 2026.
Please select All Care Pharmacy as your pharmacy of choice. When the site asks for your postcode, enter GL1 4HR and choose All Care Pharmacy, 113 Barton Street, Gloucester from the list of participating pharmacies.
You can also use the same link to check, change or cancel an appointment.
If you’re eligible because you’re heading to university or residential college, you can’t book through the NHS website. Instead:
Walk-in availability depends on stock, so we’d recommend calling ahead.
The vaccine is given as two doses, at least 4 weeks (28 days) apart, as an injection into your upper arm.
Get your first dose as early as you can so both doses are completed before term starts. Your first dose must be given by 31 December 2026, and the programme closes on 31 March 2027. Your second dose can be given at any pharmacy taking part, so if you move away for university you can still complete the course.
The appointment takes just a few minutes. One of our trained vaccinators will check your eligibility, take your consent, give the vaccine, and talk you through the signs of meningitis and sepsis.
Common side effects are mild and short-lived:
Do not wait for a rash. If you or someone else is seriously unwell, call 999 or go to A&E. If you’re unsure, call NHS 111.
Being vaccinated does not protect against every type of meningitis, so stay alert to the symptoms.
