Yellow Fever Vaccination Service
Yellow Fever is a serious viral infection spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes. It is found in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and South America and remains a significant public health concern in many countries. Travellers visiting affected areas may be at risk of infection and should seek appropriate vaccination before departure. The disease is caused by the Yellow Fever virus, which belongs to the flavivirus family. While many people experience mild symptoms, some cases can progress to severe illness with potentially life-threatening complications.
Symptoms usually develop between 3 and 6 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito and may include:
Most people recover within a few days. However, approximately 15% of patients develop a more severe form of the disease after an initial period of improvement.
Severe Yellow Fever can affect multiple organs and may cause:
Severe Yellow Fever can be fatal, making prevention through vaccination extremely important.
Yellow Fever is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. It cannot spread directly from person to person through casual contact. The risk is highest in areas where the virus is circulating among mosquito populations and local wildlife.
Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent Yellow Fever. A single dose of the vaccine provides long-lasting protection for most people and is recognised internationally.
The vaccine is administered by specially authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and is generally recommended for travellers visiting countries where the disease is present.
Following vaccination, you will receive an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), commonly known as the Yellow Card. Many countries require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination as a condition of entry, particularly when travelling from or through countries where Yellow Fever is present.
The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination.
